How dlbot handles your data and protects your privacy.

What dlbot Does

dlbot is a Discord bot that downloads media from URLs you provide, such as TikTok or Instagram links. You can use it with prefix commands like dl <url> or download <url>, and with slash commands where available.

For prefix commands, dlbot reads the command message only to extract the URL and process your request. It does not scan unrelated chat messages, and it does not use message content for ML or AI training.

Data We Process

URLs You Submit

We process the URL you send so dlbot can fetch the requested media and reply.

Discord Identifiers

We process Discord identifiers needed to run the bot, including:

  • User ID
  • Guild or server ID
  • Channel ID

Media and Basic Metadata

We process the media file and basic metadata needed to fulfill the request, such as title, author, duration, and file size.

Command Handling

We process the command invocation so dlbot can extract the URL, route the request, reply in the right place, rate limit requests, and prevent abuse.

If dlbot has the Discord Manage Messages permission, it may optionally delete the invoking command message after handling it. Server admins can deny that permission.

Retention

  • URLs: processed in memory for the request and not stored in a database.
  • Temporary logs: may include the submitted URL and minimal request details for debugging/reliability/abuse prevention; retained for up to 14 days, then deleted.
  • Discord IDs: stored only when needed for routing, rate limiting, or abuse prevention; retained for up to 14 days, then deleted.
  • Downloaded media: not stored permanently; temporary files are deleted after the request completes.
  • Backups: We do not maintain separate backups of operational logs beyond the retention period described above.

What We Don't Do

We do not store general chat messages. We only process command invocations needed to extract the URL, and limited request details may appear in temporary logs.

Data Deletion & Access Requests

If you want to request access to retained data or ask for deletion, email [email protected].

  • Your Discord User ID
  • Your server or Guild ID, if relevant
  • The approximate time of the request or incident
  • What you want deleted or accessed

dlbot can delete retained logs, rate-limit records, analytics, and similar short-term operational data if they still exist. dlbot cannot delete content controlled by Discord, or data held by third-party platforms like TikTok or Instagram.

Because dlbot keeps very little data, there may be nothing persistent to delete. Requests are typically handled within 7 to 30 days.

Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell your data.

dlbot uses the Discord API to receive commands and send replies. It also accesses third-party platforms such as TikTok and Instagram only to fetch content from the URLs you provide.

Opt-Out & Admin Controls

If you prefer not to send a visible command message, use slash commands where possible.

Server admins can restrict where dlbot is used and can deny permissions such as Manage Messages to disable command-message deletion.

Security

  • Logs are access-restricted.
  • Traffic to supported APIs and site endpoints uses HTTPS in transit.
  • We keep retention short and collect only what is needed to operate the bot.
  • Secrets such as the bot token are stored securely and should not be committed to the repository.

We may update this privacy policy occasionally. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
